NEW AMA RESOURCE Helps Physicians Put Prevention into Practice for Seniors
CHICAGO – With the passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), physicians now have more opportunities to ensure Medicare patients receive preventive services beyond the initial preventive physical exam. A new brochure
, introduced by the American Medical Association (AMA), will help physicians help patients navigate the new Medicare coverage policies for preventive services.

"Preventive care can help identify health problems early when they are likely to be easier and less costly to treat," said AMA Board Chair Ardis Hoven, M.D. "The end of deductibles and coinsurance for some preventive services will allow physicians to offer more preventive care at an affordable cost to patients."

The new AMA brochure can help patients and physicians personalize a prevention plan. It also outlines preventive care recommendations and how they are covered by the new Medicare benefit.

"Early detection through preventive care services, like diabetes or colon cancer screening, can make a big difference in the quality of life for our patients," said Dr. Hoven. "This new AMA resource will help physicians help their Medicare patients take full advantage of the improved access to important preventive care services."
